John Chambers

Executive Chairman

John previously worked at AEGIS London, where he was Director of Underwriting, and helped build the business from a fledgling syndicate into one of the largest and most profitable in the London Market. He brings considerable experience across all aspects of running a regulated insurer, from business planning through underwriting management to risk management, as well as financial and regulatory reporting. In addition to his role at Helios, John is a Non-Executive Director of the CVC owned Lloyd’s syndicate Dale Underwriting Partners and a specialist Non-Executive Director of the TT Club, the leading mutual insurer for the global logistics industry. He also advises AEGIS London and a number of institutional investors.

Nigel Hanbury

Non-Executive Deputy Chairman

Nigel was appointed Executive Deputy Chairman in April 2023 after stepping down as CEO, a position which he had filled since October 2012. He joined Lloyd’s in 1979 as an external member and became a Lloyd’s broker in 1982. He later moved to the members’ Agency side, latterly becoming Chief Executive and then Chairman of Hampden Agencies Limited. He serves on the board of the Association of Lloyd’s Members and was elected to the Council of Lloyd’s for the “Working Names” constituency, serving on that body between 1999 and 2001 and then 2005 to 2008, as well as participating on the Market Board and other Lloyd’s committees.

In December 2009 he ceased being Chairman of Hampden. Nigel and/or his direct family underwrite at Lloyd’s through two LLVs.

Arthur Manners

Chief Financial Officer

Arthur has nearly 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry. He joined the Board in April 2016 as Finance Director. He previously worked for Beazley Group plc from 1993 to 2009 as finance director and latterly as company secretary. He remains chairman of the trustees of the Beazley Furlonge Pension Scheme.

Andrew Christie

Non-executive Director

Andrew is an adviser of corporate finance advisory firm Smith Square Partners LLP and has nearly 30 years’ experience in corporate finance. Prior to Smith Square Partners, he was a managing director in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse Europe and prior to that he was head of investment banking in Asia Pacific for Credit Suisse First Boston and Barclays de Zoete Wedd.

Tom Libassi

Non-executive Director

Tom is the co-founder and managing partner of Resolute Global Partners, an investment firm specialising in insurance-linked securities, of which funds under management of, or associated with, participated in the Company’s recent fundraising. Prior to founding Resolute Global Partners, Tom was a managing director at Strategic.

Value Partners as well as holding the position of chairman at Mach Gen LLC. From 1986 to 1994, Tom was a vice president and portfolio manager at Keystone Custodian Funds, Inc., with portfolio management responsibilities for three diverse institutional high yield accounts with $250m in collective assets. Tom received an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Economics and Government from Connecticut College.

Katie Wade

Non-executive Director

Katie brings over 29 years of experience in financial markets, at Board and management level roles within the UK and internationally. Katharine currently serves as Chief Financial Officer at Aegis, the top quartile Lloyd’s syndicate, where she is responsible for strategy, capital raising and financial controls. Katharine has also held CFO roles at the UK entities within the Aspen Group (Aspen Insurance UK Limited and Aspen Managing Agency Limited) and ACE Tempest Re. She is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, Chair of the Worshipful Company of Insurers Charitable trust, and Court Assistant for the Worshipful Company of Insurers.

Management Team

The Helios management team has many years of experience in the London market. With the support and oversight of an equally experienced Board of Directors, they leverage all of their insight experience to the benefit of our shareholders and investors.

Arthur Manners

Adhiraj Maitra

Chief Operating Officer

Adhiraj has nearly 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, with a strong foundation in actuarial pricing and capital modelling. He has worked across a breadth of technical and leadership roles, including heading up the syndicate capital team at the Corporation of Lloyd’s and working in risk and strategic consulting as a Director at WTW.

He has played an active role in shaping the actuarial profession, having served on the General Insurance Board for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, where he also chaired the chaired the General Insurance Research and Thought Leadership Board.

Jen Tan

Head of Portfolio Strategy

Jen joined Helios Underwriting as the Head of Portfolio Strategy in October 2023, with 16 years of experience in London Market.

Before joining Helios, Jen was the Head of Pricing for the Marine, Energy, and Specialty division at Hiscox.

Prior to Hiscox, Jen served as a Partner at Willis Towers Watson, where she helped top-tier global companies quantify their risks and optimise their risk financing strategies.

Jen holds a PhD in Statistics and is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

David Shawe

ACMA Financial Controller

Financial professional with 20 years experience in the London market and holding ACMA qualification since 2010.

Previous roles held of Finance business partner, Financial analyst and Financial Planning and analysis across Insurers, Managing agents and Member agents.

His role at Helios started in mid 2022, and brings a wealth of experience in budgeting, forecasting, reporting and capital management.

A highly analytical and results orientated financial controller, with day to day responsibility for reporting financial performance and finance operations.

John Maudslay

Consultant: LLVs / Starter Homes / Database

John has worked at Helios since 2013 following a career spent in the Underwriting/ Managing / Members’ agency side of Lloyd’s.
He has held positions as a director of two managing agencies and three Members’ agencies, including being managing director of the members’ agency of Marlborough Underwriting Agency Limited.
His role at Helios includes dealing with LLV sales and purchase, managing the contact data base, liaison with outside bodies and providing general assistance to directors as required.

Cécile Fayter

Executive Assistant, Office Manager

Cécile joined Helios Underwriting as the Executive Assistant and Office Manager in April 2025.
Before joining Helios, Cécile was an Investment Manager at the Arts and Huminites Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation.
An arts graduate from the University of Birmingham, Cécile also holds a Masters in Acting from Arts Educational Schools, completed in 2024.
